Margaret McMillan one of the pioneers of education for young children in this country in the early 1900's said "The teacher of little children is not merely giving lessons. She is helping to make a brain and nervous system, and this work which is going to determine all that comes after, requires a finer perception and a wider training and outlook than is needed by any other kind of teacher. Others are going to teach a big girl history or a big boy Latin but she is going to modify or determine the structure of brain centres." Amanda dedicated her working life to do just that for so many children, giving them the best start in life. Thameside Primary are very lucky to have had her on their staff, she would be very happy for them to receive these donations.

Amanda supported me through my NQT year and welcomed me in to her family when times were hard. The BBQs, New Year's Eve , the Millenium party, cocktails, games on the PC, fireworks and the sheer love of life and generous spirit will leave me with lasting memories. I met Amanda whilst doing my NNEB training to work with children and she was wonderfully supportive. I was lucky enough to also have her teach both of daughters whilst she worked at Southcote Primary School. She was a wonderful person who was always happy with a lovely smile on her face.
