Kidney Research UK is the largest funder in the United Kingdom dedicated to supporting research into kidney disease - a potentially fatal illness for which there is currently no cure. Founded in 1961, 2011 was the organisation's 50th anniversary funding groundbreaking medical research to save lives. We have over £10.1 million invested in research at any one time, awarding grants to doctors, nurses and researchers across the UK. We also award grants to kidney patients so that they can cope with the unexpected costs of their condition, and campaign for better patient access to renal services. Kidney disease is a silent killer. Every year an estimated 50,000 people are treated for kidney failure, 3,000 people die on dialysis and 300 die waiting for a kidney transplant. Kidney Research UK is dedicated to substantially reducing these numbers through funding life-saving research into kidney disease and by generating public awareness of kidney healwww.kidneyresearchuk.org
