Operations Team Leader role

AB Walker, a family owned funeral directors based in Reading are seeking a dynamic and diplomatic individual to develop the role of Operations Team Leader within our experienced team of funeral operatives.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our operations team, coordinating resources effectively to meet key objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee general funeral duties, coordination of bringing of deceased into our care, mortuary duties, vehicle maintenance, workshop duties, and building maintenance
  • Develop and implement personal development programmes for the funeral operative team through internal and external training, recognising and leveraging individual strengths
  • Enthusiastically lead and encourage team members to perform to the best of their ability
  • Improve team communication including through regular 1-2-1 meetings
  • Control and monitor annual leave and sick leave, authorise overtime, and conduct risk assessments
  • Play a key role in the recruitment and induction of new employees
  • Report directly to and support the Operations Manager in achieving departmental goals
  • Chair Operative Meetings and Conductors Meetings
  • Bear coffins and assist in the on-call rota when necessary.

About you

  • Experience of managing a small team is essential
  • Prior experience in the funeral industry is desirable
  • Demonstrate the highest standards in personal presentation, motivation, and attention to detail
  • Possess a firm but fair approach to personnel management
  • Exhibit good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must hold a full, clean, manual driving license
  • Ideally fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Working hours

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm
Where necessary, assist in an on-call rota to provide our services outside of standard working hours.
Six month probationary period.
