Funeral operative role

AB Walker, a family owned funeral directors based in Reading, dedicated to providing compassionate and professional services to families in their time of need, has a vacancy for a full-time funeral operative. We are an established part of the local community and are looking for someone who shares our approach of providing excellence and care.

The role is very varied and every day is different.

Key responsibilities

  • Transporting the deceased into our care with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Acting as a pallbearer and chauffeur during funeral services
  • Providing compassionate support to grieving families
  • Undertaking behind-the-scenes tasks such as preparing the deceased for viewing, coffin finishing, and grave preparation
  • Ensuring all aspects of the funeral process align with the wishes and instructions received from families
  • Maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of company vehicles.

About you

  • A team player who thrives in a busy and committed environment
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates empathy and compassion towards others
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and think quickly on your feet
  • Prior experience in a similar role is not required – comprehensive training will be given
  • Must hold a full, clean, manual driving license
  • Ideally fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Working hours

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm
Participation in an on-call rota to provide our services outside of standard working hours.
Six month probationary period.

Salary and benefits

Salary: Starting from £23,920 per annum commensurate with experience
