Ruth, you were so strong and determined. Two memories that demonstrate this so well are: when you ran the Reading half marathon to raise money for the CPS adventure playground and more recently, during the pandemic - you demonstrated such leadership and relentless hard work to ensure that every child had the opportunity to return to school. You never sat back, always striving to make Caversham Primary the best it could be. My thoughts are with those who knew you best - they have clearly lost someone so dear. RIP Ruth

I knew Ruth as a family friend, our Fathers were best friends. I hadn't seen her much as adults but remember her clearly as a young girl at the picnics we went on every year. Ruth was the most impressive person I went to Primary school with, the most intelligent, the hardest working, the neatest and the best behaved. I remember her so well... telling the class how she was related to the explorer Mungo Park and finishing her times tables before I had even drawn the grid. I always hoped our paths would cross again but here I am on the other side of the world in Australia, feeling an immense sense of tragedy for someone I havent met for 40 years. I cant imagine the loss those close to her feel.

It hit me like a ton of bricks when I realised they were talking about Ruth. We knew her as Ruth Waters, at the start of her career she joined the school in which I was deputy and Jeremy was head. From the start we could see her potential. She was intelligent, caring, charismatic and dedicated in that way when you can tell teaching is a vocation not a job. A vocation which should never have ended this way. Ofsted is not fit for purpose and many of us have been bruised by the process. Our thoughts are with Ruth's family. Such loss.

Ruth and I were great friends in our first year at Exeter Uni. It was a very different environment to adjust to for me, and she was the best thing about that year. I moved onto a different uni after that, but I'll never forget the fun and friendship we shared. She lived life to the full. Whilst I wish I'd reached out and been closer to her when she was struggling, as I'm sure others feel, it is the system that is to blame. We must work towards a system where the values of schools like CPS feed into the Ofsted system - everyone wants to keep children safe, and we will do that better if we work together. Mrs Perry was an inspirational leader: it is hard to think about Caversham Primary School without immediately thinking of her too - as a constant and steadying presence throughout the school years and the Covid pandemic. She seemed to know all of the children by name, and to which parents each belonged. When not visibly leading school events herself, Mrs Perry always appeared to be quietly present in the background - whether on the edge of the playground at drop-off and pick up times, or late in the evening when coaches brought the children back from events. Our children very much appreciated the Latin classes that Mrs Perry led herself outside of normal school hours, and which developed their own interest in languages. Being a headteacher can be truly wonderful, but it can also be terrifying and isolating. For John, Thea and Martha and all Ruth's family Ruth and I worked together years ago as part of the LEA consultants team. We were happy and it was such a positive experience. I still remember her infectious chuckle. I kept in touch, met for coffee from time to time and did some supply work for her and my daughter Francesca went through Caversham Primary. She always made time for us and Francesca was very happy. Time passed by and I saw Ruth less and less - I now live with the 'if onlys'. If only I had spent more time with her. I was deeply saddened to hear of Ruth's death. I didn't know her well, but we met from time to time via our kids' activities. She was such a proud mum, and obviously adored her girls. She was always so friendly and it was such a pleasure to see her and catch up. For her part, I always felt as though she liked occasionally just being another local mum, rather than always having to be the Head Teacher! I didn't know her as a teacher, but from the multitude of comments, she was clearly very well loved and highly regarded, which makes this tragedy even more painful.
