I remember seeing Derek when he came round the lab for his first interviews with the various groups. Myself and another colleague took him to lunch. Needless to say he joined the lab sometime afterwards and although I did not work directly with him he made a great success of his career in the Photographic Industry and particularly in the RPS. So well done Derek!

I knew Derek going all the way back to when I started with Kodak. He was kind, supportive and very generous with his time. A wonderful man.

Derek was a faithful and dependable friend, always kind and considerate. I valued our time together especially the tours we did together mainly focussed on our mutual interest in railways. Our spectacular tour of parts of the USA and across Canada to Vancouver in 1981 would not have happened or been a success if it wasn't for Derek's methodical organisational abilities. It was an honour to have known him and will miss our conversations before his illness took hold sharing our thoughts and experiences

I couldn't have wished for a more fair-minded, honourable, supportive and modest colleague to have worked with, over a significant period of time on many Royal Photographic Society committees and associated activities. I will miss him greatly and have done since he had to step down prematurely from his RPS activities due to ill health.

With fond memories of my cousin, Derek. A kind and caring man. He always made sure that he kept in touch with all his family attending both my mother's and father's funerals in Norfolk. Rest in peace, Derek.

A quiet, gentle man, but with steely side, too. Kindly, generous and always willing to help. A gentleman, with a great legacy so in many ways.

Such a sad loss. Derek really helped my mother in her latter years which shows what a lovely man he was.
