Vernon was an excellent teacher at the University of Reading - in fact he was the best teacher at the time! He was without the academic ego so many academics have and was willing to discuss a wide range of subjects even if it was off topic (in lessons). I wish he had been teaching more modules on the MSc. Vernon was very gracious and humble and he signed my copy of the Flowering Plant Families of the World. Rest in Peace. Now botanising somewhere over the rainbow bridge. Fi, MSc.
